"The Plastician" Joins BBC Radio One

Today’s a day of mixed feelings for me, as I’m excited to announce that I’m joining BBC Radio 1’s The Residency. Sadly this of course means my time on the station that made my name, London’s leading Rinse FM, will have come to an end.

The last Plasticman show on Rinse will be February 3rd, after which I’ll be joining the Residency for Radio One's very first dubstep and grime-dedicated show. The first of my shows will be broadcast on February 5th. This will be simulcasting on DAB and FM nationally and worldwide online.

The show works on a rotational basis between 6 DJ's each representing different genres of electronic dance music, which means I will be on every 6 weeks.

I will also use this as an opportunity to officially change my name from Plasticman.... to "The Plastician". This is to avoid further confusion between myself and Richie Hawtin.

I would like to take this chance to thank Rinse FM, all DJs and management for all their help in getting me where I am today. No one does dubstep and grime like Rinse, and I have no doubt that they will continue to break artists through from the underground, right into the mainstream.

Looking forward, I’m excited about pushing new UK underground artists and production talent to a whole new audience. I'm sure you will agree this is a MASSIVE look for the entire scene.

Happy New year and all that, hope you all had a good Xmas as well.

2006 has started with a BANG! Dubstep seems to have taken some huge steps already, with DMZ packed to capacity last Saturday (on arguably the least busy saturday night out of the whole year) and then to top that off, Dubstep Wars on the Breezeblock (Radio One) was an absolute success - surely enticing even more people towards the sound with some amazing mixes laid down by dubstep's finest. Looks like 2006 is going to be a highly pivotal year.

The name change saga continues, with lawyers breathing down my neck I have decided to change it to........... you'll have to wait a few days - keeping you on your toes! But I definitely will be changing it - hopefully it won't harm the foundations I've spent the last 5 years of my life building.

Rinsessions @ Ministry - Very Important Event.

Right People, Ministry of Sound in London are hosting Rinsessions on the 28th December 2005.

I can't stress how important this is to attend - it needs to be packed and full of good vibes just so that the media can shut up about how grime is full of trouble makers and gang warfare. It's had a lot of bad press lately and if this event runs smoothly it could see a rise in grime raves at massive venues like this one.

Never before has there been a grime / dubstep rave of this kalibre in London. If you live in the UK (or outside) I can't stress enough how much you need to attend this event.

Oh my diddy. Sweden was jokes - proper good party vibes.

Skepta (my overseas drinking spar) did not disappoint from day dot, drinking a mixture of Absolut Vodka, Jim Beam and Cola, all out of the same bottle. That is SERIOUS.

The rave was big, the crowd were really getting into it, shouting back lyrics and all sorts, and loving the tunes as well.

The women were looking good over there - it's no myth that Swedish ladies are buff trust me.

J2K and Fury were murking. J absolutely killed it though, jumping into the crowd and spitting lyrics from the dancefloor.

Cos Fury don't drink I think she was getting a little tired at the end of the night after the performance, but we weren't ready to go home! The murkage continued until about 5 am and then we went back to the hotel. I eventually got to sleep at about 6:30 am only to be woken up at 11:30 to go back to the airport.

Messy night - big up all the Swedish crew for being toppa top and we look forward to seeing you all again.

I picked up an award this week..... The proud winner of best Plasticman award, in this years Showerface awards held by Prancehall. I won't give a speech, instead I will leave you with a showerface pic of me in NYC.

Just a short note to big up everyone who turned up (and travelled) to the gigs on the tour. I was so impressed by the representation of all the usual suspects from various blogs and forums and it was pretty mind blowing to realise just how many people really DO know who you are.

I will be publishing a tour diary soonish in a well known music publication so look out for that.

In the meantime, special mentions go out to DJ C (Boston), Dev & Starkey (Philly), Spinosa (NYC) and Ripple (SAn Fran) for having us. It was very memorable, hope to see you all again soon!

My disc is mixed across 4 decks, and took a fucking age to finish off. I've still got 5 sheets of a4 paper sat in my room covered in scribbles of pitches and order of tunes. It's been fully effected aswell, I spent a week adding phases / flanges and sound effects to make it sound interesting, it's hard to make an instrumental set sound good on CD unless you have an MC with you, but hopefully this one will stick in the memory for a bit!

Should see light of day on Rephlex later on this year. Will be Instrumental and pretty varied from straight up grime riddims to eclectic slow shit. It will all run on a 140 bpm / 70 bpm (halfstep stuff) kinda flex.
